Archie Eason Straw Hat Details

Woven from natural straw and topped with a whisper of veiling, this beauty features a full, sweeping brim and a softly rounded crown that just begs to be worn on a tilt. A sage green grosgrain ribbon wraps gently around the base, while a single blush-pink silk rose peeks out from beneath the netting like it’s keeping a secret. And if you look closely at the brim, tucked away like a signature on a love letter — there it is. That tiny green sequin. Eason’s signature calling card.

  • 1950s cartwheel silhouette with full circular brim.
  • Natural straw body with layered crimped veiling.
  • Soft green grosgrain hatband.
  • Silk rose detail under the netting.
  • Archie Eason for Davidson’s, Atlanta.
  • Finished with his signature green sequin at the back.
  • Meant to perch at a graceful angle, this hat adds just the right touch of garden-party drama or Sunday flair. It’s not just a hat. It’s a mood.

Who Was Archie Eason

In 1984, Archie Eason began his career as a stock boy at a department store in Jacksonville, Florida. While juggling shifts, he acquired expertise in the millinery trade by observing hat makers. His proficiency earned him a position in the millinery department, and within a few years, he was designing under his label for the store.

After 14 years, Eason relocated to New York, collaborating with fashion designers and building an impressive clientele, particularly among Hollywood stars. Eason crafted a diverse array of hats tailored to suit every face.

One of his most renowned creations was Faye Dunaway’s beret in the 1968 film “Bonnie and Clyde.” Eason’s distinctive touch includes a green sequin placed on the outer part of the crown on each of his hats.  Read more on our blog.

HOW TO FIND YOUR HAT SIZE

  • Pull a fabric tape measure or length of string around your head just slightly above the ear, across the mid-forehead, completely circling your head.
  • Hold the tape firmly, but not too tightly. You are measuring your head exactly where the hat will sit in either inches or centimeters.
  • If your measurement falls between sizes, choose the next largest size.
  • Then buy a fabulous vintage hat from Madge
